The genesis

When the idea for Tamar Homes Foundation was first conceived, it was as a result of the need to help, to assist, to give back. And when it was born, the scope of operation was already certain.

With Nigeria having a population of over 70 million people living in poverty, the most in Africa,  women making up 60% of that number, single mothers constituting nearly 10% of the entire population, and the gross economic vulnerability faced by children and the elderly on a day to day basis, it was clear that the foundation was to be fully devoted to the welfare of the indigent, single mothers, underprivileged children, and the elderly.

Since Tamar Homes Foundation was established in 2020 under the guidance of realtor and businesswoman Olajumoke Rhema, it has operated strictly under a set of core objectives, which are, to serve humanity and spread love among people, alleviate poverty, educate and sensitize women and children in the society, pay goodness forward and give back to the society.

In the light of this, the foundation has worked hard over the past couple of years and put together resources to embark on outreach programs, outreach programs intrinsic to attaining our set objectives.

In March of 2020, we embarked on our first outreach program, where we visited the Yaba Old People’s home and were privileged to donate food items and toiletries to them.

Less than 3 months later in June, and with the effects of the pandemic lockdown starting to slowly cripple in,  we embarked on our very first food drive at the Abule Ode community in Ajah, feeding 300 families.

As things slowed down further in the country due to the restrictions and lockdown, we embarked on another food drive, this time to the Lafiaji community in Lekki, with over 400 families benefiting this time, and during the aftermath of the #endsars protests where some businesses were unfortunately destroyed, Tamar Homes Foundation supported victims of small businesses with N500k.

While THF closed a very challenging 2020 with a Christmas party for the children of Arrows of God Orphanage Home, Ajah, more effort and resources were directed into our food drives of 2021 in February and June to the Ilaje, Lafiaji, and Ikota communities where over 850 families benefitted. And later in September of 2021, we launched our ‘Back to School’ initiative, with the first edition kicking off at Ikota Primary School and with over 750 children benefitting by getting books, school bags, and other items to make learning more convenient.

Determined to make 2022 our most productive year yet, we started on a really high note, launching our biggest program yet, the Free Medical outreach in January where not less than 350 people around the Ikota community benefitted. There were free medical consultations, free medical testing, blood pressure check, distribution of drugs, free feeding and distribution of relief materials, donation of wheelchairs, and walking aids to persons with disabilities.

We took our February 14 celebration of love to the Children’s Home, Yaba with our ‘Spread Love’ outreach initiative where we donated food items and money, refurbished their generator, as well as shared a swell time with them as we celebrated the season of love.

While the first couple of years has been inspirational, we believe there’s still work to be done in building on the solid foundation, and a lot of work at that. The number of men, women, children and the elderly that are economically disadvantaged in Nigeria is growing on a daily basis, and we believe that it is our moral duty to contribute our quota to helping these people.

Already in the works is an outreach initiative planned for June where we will be visiting a school for physically challenged children in Lagos, and we plan on donating nothing less than 35 wheelchairs amongst other items.

The vision is growing, the mission is expanding, and Tamar Homes Foundation is just getting started.
